PRAIRIE POLLINATORS | BLUE MUD DAUBER WASPS
About Blue Mud Dauber Wasps:
Most of us recoil at the sight of wasps, but they are actually an important part of our pollinating community. Wasps do not feed their young pollen like bees, but adult wasps do frequent flowers for nectar to supply their energy needs.
Female blue mud dauber wasps construct mud nests in sheltered areas, often under the eaves of buildings, and feed their brood with spiders and other ground-dwelling prey. They pollinate common wildflowers, including Queen Anne's lace and golden alexanders found at Sylvan Prairie.
