PRAIRIE POLLINATORS | MONARCH BUTTERFLIES
About Monarch Butterflies:
Monarchs are the most recognizable butterfly species in North America! As pollinators, monarchs pollinate a wide range of wildflowers, trees, shrubs, and perennial plants.
During the fall monarchs go into a state of suspended development known as diapause, and migrate to their overwintering sites located in Central Mexico. This migration can take monarchs distances of more than 3,000 kilometers and last for more than two months! When early spring arrives, monarchs break diapause, mate, and migrate back Northwards to continue nectaring on a variety of plants.
